It can open and save PICT files and StartupScreens.
It can open the Japanese formats G68, MAG, MAKI, Pi, PIC, and Q4.
It can also open GIF and JPEG(JFIF).
It can save files in PIC format.

Quicktime 1.5 or greater is required for JPEG and the catalog function
The application memory size must be 3 MB or greater to show slide shows
of full color pictures on a 13" monitor, or 6 MB or greater on a 20"
monitor. (It may require more memory to open large full color pictures.)

Drag and drop the picture onto the application.
For files transfered from other types of computers, use the extensions
.G69, .GIF, .MAG, .MKI, .PI, .PIC, .Q4, ore .JPG.
Files with the extension .PICT will be opened as PICT. This is to help
with files that were compressed on computers other than macintoshes.
• Opening catalogs:
Drag and drop the folder or disk containing the picture files.
Clicking on a file to open it.
Start a slide show by selecting SlideShow from the Catalog menu when the
catalog window is active. Press a key or double click to interrupt the
slide show. When the watch cursor is being displayed, you can click to
continue to the next picture.
During a slide show, if a folder has the extension of DOC (space + DOC),
its contents will not be displayed. It will also not display the
contents of subdirectories which are aliases.
• Putting multiple pictures into one:
1. This makes it easy to work with files that you often open and attachs
a custom icon to them
2. Make a new folder in the finder
3. End the folder's name with [Space]NIG. Lowercase is fine too. (For
example "BigPicture nig").
4. Copy the files you want into the folder, and arrange their icons in
the positions that you want the pictures to be in.
5. Close the folder's window (to update the information in the finder).
6. Drag and drop this temporary folder onto PixelCat. The pictures will appear in
one window.
The name NIG comes from what the PIC format calls pictures that are
divided into several files.
There is no limit on the number of files in the folder, but since more
files require more memory, if will become limited by memory.
• Flipping rotated pictures:
If you want to rotate a picture clockwise, append /RR to the name, and
append /RL if you want to rotate counterclockwise. (for example ROTATE.PIC/RR)
It will rotate the picture when you open it.

File menu
New Makes a window from the PICT contents of the current clipboard
Open... Open a picture file. If you select "Catalog", it will make a
catalog from the contents of the current directory (if there are no files
in the directory that it can display, it will not make one).
Close Close a window
Save... Saves the picture in the active window. You can choose the save
format from a popup menu.
PICT - the Macintosh format
StartupScreen - There are black & white MacPaint startup screens, and
color PICT startup screens. This program uses the latter.

There aren't any special items. Copy is the only one that can be used.

Prefs menu
A menu for selecting application preferences.
Window Intialize - Selects the state of windows when they are opened.
See the section on the Window menu for information on what these are.
Paint on Menubar - Windows can be shown on the window bar [This doesn't
seem to work for me]
Set ColorPalette - When the display is in 16 or 256 colors, attaches the
Window's color palette.
Manekineko - This is for choosing which display new pictures will be
displayed on. When selected, a small window with a cat will appear.
Drag this to the screen you want new windows to be opened on. If you
don't use this, they will be opened on the display that the cursor is
currently on.
Loop SlideShow - The slide show will keep looping until it is interrupted.
Show Data Info - If selected, it will show information about pictures
even when a slide show is running
SlideShow Wait - Lets you select the minimum about of time between
pictures during a slide show. In reality, it will wait longer if it
cannot load the next picture quickly enough.
ICON&Preview - Lets you select if it will attach custom icons or
previews (for use with catalogs) to the files, and what types to use.
with File Format includes information about the file format in the
icons. Square makes the icons square.
FileType&Creator - if selected, makes the file creator 'xPIC', and the
file type one of:
G68 - 'xG68'
